SJOG Screen Midland Process

This is how we made it

Goal: Make an artistic and informative entry statement which would guide hospital visitors to the main entrance of the hospital.

We worked with Indigenous artist Peter Farmer to create a laser cut screen. A great deal of detailed research was conducted by the Artforms Team to identify locally growing native flora which had been used by Noongar people for medicinal purposes. These plants were then drawn in such a way that they could be cut by the laser.

We decided to contrast coreten and stainless steel within the design, which worked to great effect.

In addition to the screen, Peter drew goannas which we laser etched into pure black granite. These were intended to act as direction markers to guide visitors to the main entrance of the hospital.
